 Western Clothing Causing Controversey

Clothes make the culture:  from saris to Shararas to Dupattas to...jeans?  modern versus traditional has come to the ex treemes.  What to wear:  the chic new high fashions or the classy traditional outfits?  This new conflict in Indian households has fueled a game of tug-a-war between the young and the old.  Despite what many may feel, fashion is a form of art, an expression of the people.  No matter if that is modern or traditional, it varies between people.  Maybe it is the variation that flames this fire, people's views and taster differ.

This is not the first time that the clothing of India has changed drastically.  Before the Muslims invaded India in the 1500's Indian clothing was simply unsewn materials wrapped around people in different styles.  After the Muslims invaded, the clothing of India became much more elaborate.  Clearly, the changing of clothing styles is inevitable in India.

Skript:

Kid: Morning

Grandma: Morning...What in the world are you wearing?

K: Clothes.

G: I can see that.  Now go change into something more modest.

K: But grandma, everyone is wearing this.

G: Well, your not everyone, I just got you a new sari, why don't you wear that?

K: Everyone will make fun of me for wearing that.

G: Make fun of you!  That is a traditional garment, you should be proud to display your culture.

K: I am proud to share my modern culture, not that old lady stuff.

G: Old lady stuff! CHANGE NOW! You are being disrespectful to your culture elders.  I don't care what people say.  Please wear your new sari.

K: Why can't I was my new jeans?

G: They do not display our traditions.

K: Can't they display the new traditions?

G: CHANGE NOW!

K: Fine....Is this better?

G: It will do for mow.  I do not uderstad why you do not want to wear traditional Indian clothes.

K: Wester clothing is much more popular.  That is what all my friends are wearing.

G: I will never understand why.

K: And I will never understand why you want me to wear traditional clothing.

G: I suppose we will never share the same opinion of the subject.

K: Probably not.
