India. To most people this word seems like a country in Asia, nothing more, and nothing less. What most people do not know is that the country of India has been developing rapidly for nearly half a century.  Although India's culture is diverse, it is bound together by certain characteristics. One of the main characteristics that binds the culture in India is music. India's music has rapidly evolved from its carnatic roots to its more recent rock and hip-hop songs. Carnatic music was and is one of the most respected and renowned type of music in the world. From ancient to modern India, carnatic music has been a symbol of India's culture. However in the fast-paced changing world, carnatic music is in danger of being forgotten. Modern music such as bollywood, rock, hip-hop, and western classical are taking over India's ancient culture. In the midst of this, carnatic music still is and always will be a staple if India's culture. Carnatic artists such as M.S. Subalakshmi, ang Lalgudi G. Jayaraman bring back this style music into the ears of the Indian people. With globalization occuring rapidly and new fashions being introduced every moment, Indian people have to find a way to embrace new things but also stick to their olden values and roots.
