Cricket is the most popular sport in India. The first recorded cricket match took place in India with British sailors. As time goes on the more traditional style of play is being phased out in India. The heavily British influenced traditional style is being phased out by more modern styles such as 20/20. 20/20 was introduced as a shorter version of the 5-day traditional game and to attract more attention to the sport. I choose the topic of sports because I wanted to learn more about the athletics in India and the influence and change that has happened.
Mock Dialogue
Granddaughter: I’m back!
Grandfather: How was the game, you guys win?
Granddaughter: Yes, of course we did, I’m so tired though.
Grandfather: Hey, did I ever tell you about that one time when I was just around your age? It was nothing like now, my friends and I . . .
Granddaughter: Seriously grandpa? I just played an entire game of cricket, I don’t want to here about another one of your silly stories, it’s like that’s all you talk about, and "back then" totally wasn’t anything like today.
Grandfather: Hey, that’s something that is different too, granddaughters actually respected their elders.
Granddaughter: I’m sorry, it’s just, I can’t quite make a connection with the two times, so much has changed since then.
Grandfather: Well, you could just think about sports, what you just did. I played cricket with my friends back then too. When me and my best friends would play, the games last for hours upon hours, days, the way they are supposed to be done.
Granddaughter: I know, I know, you’ve told me. You’re always telling me stories about that time long ago when you always played cricket, were actually strong, fast, good looking, and unbeatable. What happened there? I mean, like really. I don't exactly have time to hang around playing sports, I have a life you know?
Grandfather: What did I tell you about the respect thing? Now all the teenagers are moving farther away from sports and switching over those phones and computers
Granddaughter: Well, at least everything hasn't been lost, we still follow some traditions from before.
