Cell Phones: More Than Communication

Matthew Gerada B2

In India all people use cell phones every where (www.textually.org)

For this wiki project my partner and I chose the topic communication in India but during this we would like to focus on the cell phone because almost every country has it and there are many different opinions about it. We chose to research and learn about if people in India also have cell phones and if they do how and how often they use them. In India people really love their cell phones. They have them with them almost all the time and use them for all sorts of different things. For example they watch movies on them, play games, take pictures or listen to music. According to the National Public Radio, 2007 in India the cell phone is an entertainment center because India is a country where very few homes have broadband Internet access and there is not much to do. According to research firm Economist Intelligence Unit only six million people in India have a broadband connection, but close to 200 million have cell phones .This shows that people in India view a cell phone as very important because it has almost everything.

MK-Young Indian Boy (Grandchild)

MG- Stop playing with your cell phone, you have been using it for about three hours now.

MK- But why?

MG-There are other more important things in life. You should focus on a healthy good life. You should focus more on a healthy good life, go outside and move around.

MK- But there is nothing to do outside.

MG- There is always something to do. When I was a child, we picked up sticks and rocks and made a game out of them.

MK- That was 40 years ago though.

MG-But it was still fun.

MK-Just let me do what I want. I want to play with my cell phone!

MG- What do you like about your cell phone, it looks just a waste of time to me!

MK-I don’t think you know what a cell phone is, It has everything, I can listen to music if it is quiet. I can play games or watch a movie when I get board. I can call a friend so then I don’t have to walk all the way to his house. It also has a calculator and the ability to surf the internet. It can do everything!

MG- This cell phone is going to ruin some of great traditions.

MK- Alright I’ll will stop playing games now but I still want to play a couple hours every day.

MG- Alright but promise to play outside and live a healthy life.

MK- I promise.

MG- OK.
