From art to language to literature, India has always been a place of much creativity.
Dance- The oldest most sacred dance to India is known as the Bharata Natyam, in this dance, the dancers are able to express individuality and gives ideals in quick movements of the Hindi culture. It used to be used during temple worship or a Puja, sacrifice. It serves as a release or ultimate transformation of anything that restraint ones body. It is supposed to engage audience, while voluntarily freeing one of their mind, the dancer would be considered a goddess (god) and/or devote (e).
Music- The oldest style of classical singing is known as the Dhrupad, known in Northern India. Its normal topics are about great kings, mythological stories, and devotion text. Dhrupad literally means “the literal rendering of verse into music”. It is so traditional; it dates back to the Mogul era in the 16th century.
Bollywood- It is in the Hindi language and much like Hollywood is placed in the highly populated Mumbai or Bombay formerly India. Although it gets a lot more population then Hollywood, they sold almost one million more copies! In these films it is very rare that characters kiss, they do this because the censorship board in India is unpredictable and they do not wish to scare customers. Also they please a vast majority of audiences and they do not know their rules of morality. When the actors in the movies tug their ear it is symbolic to many things- but the main reason is because it is a gesture used during apologies, where they physically admit their wrong-doing, while demonstrating their repentance.
Novels- Writing of stories in India began in the Vedic era, where caste systems were just beginning, and Hinduism was in its most elevated state. During this time educating oneself was the best way to move up in the caste system, education was very high valued during this time. Which may be why literature saw such success, it was Sanskrit as the first Indian language used in novels. The purpose of Indian novels is to reflect on history, society, political domain, economic status and traditions belonging to India. Natives used novels to pass on ideas, like the ‘enslaved Indian novels’, their way of out speaking against the british invaders, through pen and not sword. A newly popular type of literature is graphic novels, a popular way to document past successes in novels.
